Vents II

Vents II is a part of Candace Makowichuk’s series of photographs capturing the back alleys of businesses along Edmonton’s Whyte Avenue, before the gentrification of the area. The photo captures the pipes and mechanical operations of the building. As an engaged urban dweller using a variety of public spaces, Makowichuk’s photos investigate the many aspects of the city. 

The image is a hand coloured silver gelatin photograph. The methodology and approach to the photo portray a contemporary vision of the city, while celebrating the roots of photography.
