About
The modern geometric style of this artwork was done on a grid system. This technique allows for a compact representation of many different types of animals together. It creates dynamism and unifies the composition. The highly stylized representation of animals is a contemporary approach to illustration, and the result is an eye-catching artwork that viewers can return to with each visit to the transit centre.
Living in urban centres often creates a divide between the natural and the constructed. Images that portray nature remind us of the intimate connection between the two, and that the land where we live was once a habitat for these animals. Wong wanted to create images that remind the viewer of the large amounts of wildlife that surround us and to create a sense of curiosity for the natural world. He hoped people would look at the piece and ask, “What animal is that?”
