These colourful mosaic panels honour First Responders who have died in the line of duty.

Artist Wayne Ashley writes:

Honour – the white tile represents the quarter of the moon in the sky. The grey tones in the background represent the night and rain; the grout symbolizes thunder. The eagle flies over the city reacting to any situation without hesitation, much like the members of the Edmonton Police, Fire and Ambulance. In that moment when lives are at stake, the individuals knowingly make the ultimate sacrifice…their lives.

The Ultimate Sacrifice – the brown tile in the top left represents the Earth where the body returns. The turtle on the teepee represents faith, wisdom and understanding. The Buffalo, healing and acceptance. The red tile is the spirit world. The teepees are where the souls of the fallen, who have paid the ultimate sacrifice, are turned into the Spirit of an Eagle which watches over their loved ones until the day they reunite.”
