Lead artist Tim Antoniuk was challenged to “create an installation for the University LRT station embodying… the essence of the University of Alberta Community in this space, movement.” The collaborative project brought the idea of movement to life through reflected, interactive light. As a whole, the artist writes “…this design symbolizes the spirit of our campus, its many facets, a vibrant articulating whole.”

Artists Colin Bernie and Adrien Cho collaborated on the design.

Tim Antoniuk (Lead Artist)

Tim Antoniuk was born in Edmonton, Canada in 1967. He studied business at the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology, and Sculpture and Industrial Design at the University of Alberta in Canada. In 1986 he formed Whirlwind Sails, a windsurf design and manufacturing company; in 1992 he co-founded Hothouse Design Studio, a furniture design, retail and manufacturing company that sold its own line of products internationally. Over the past ten years Tim’s design collaborations have won awards such as, The Apple/National Post Design Effectiveness Award, an award in the furniture category of the Annual ID Design Competition, and more recently, a place in the most prestigious international design competition/publication, The 2003 International Design Year Book (editor Karim Rashid), and a major review of Hothouse’s work in the Industrial Design and is teaching furniture and product design at the University of Alberta. He has recently opened up a new design studio, ANT Industrial Design, designing lighting, furniture, products and interiors for international manufacturers.
