Join the WindRose Trio for their concert WindRhose presents Rheinberger on Sunday, May 4 at 3pm at Highlands United Church (11305 64 St NW).
The concert begins, appropriately enough, with Awakening (2016) by Albertan composer Kristin Flores. This piece was commissioned by WindRose Trio and previously performed by us in 2016. Next is a jazz inspired Trio Toccata (2014) for oboe, bassoon, and piano by African-American Valerie Coleman. Our first half concludes with Edmonton’s own John Estacio and his woodwind quintet titled “Sinfonietta” (2014).
Matthew Howatt is excited to première a bassoon sonata written by Edmonton composer and Chinese-Canadian Joseph Lai for Matt. To conclude we will play the lush and romantic Sextet in F Major (1899) by Joseph Rheinberger. Rheinberger is best known as a composer of organ music but this little known sextet is a forgotten gem.
