Tuesday Jam Hosted by Gareth Gilliland & Kija Lado

@ Yardbird Suite // 8:00 pm

Ticketed Event

Joined by pianist Brady Lloyd, drummer Jon Guenter, and bassist Sean Croal, they will present a set of jazz and jazz-influenced music centering around the voice.

Kija Lado is a South Sudanese multidisciplinary artist and musician born and raised in Amiskwaciwâskahikan. Playing with Rolling Stone-featured artists such as D’orjay the Singing Shaman, Kija spins the web of solo-artistry and collaboration effortlessly. From Country to Sub-Saharan folk and R&B, she blends soulful vocals and honest storytelling to make both herself and others feel, know, and be known.

A thoughtful guitarist, songwriter, and producer – Gareth Gilliland’s approach to music unifies genres and puts an emphasis on multi-disciplinary collaboration. He holds a Bachelor’s in Music from Macewan University where he studied with renowned guitarists Jim Head, Mo Lefever, and Jamie Philp. Gareth is one of Edmontons busiest guitarists, playing and recording with large and small group jazz, country, rock and hip-hop ensembles. In addition to his live performances, Gareth co-organizes the weekly community event and jam New Standards every Wednesday evening. Inspired by the diverse approaches of Bill Frisell, Christian Scott, and Jeff Parker, Gareth honours the mosaic of Black American Music and ventures forth to find his own voice through composition and improvisation.

Our live Tuesday Jam is hosted by a musician and a band while audience members join in on the fun by jamming along on stage.

Musicians who want to participate in the Jam can purchase a Jam Participant” ticket at a reduced cost.

All Jam Participants need to register at the door upon entry to the event.
