Live Beadwork Performance with Moriah Crocker

@ Latitude 53 // 2:00 pm

Oct 9 - Nov 9 2024

Join Moriah Crocker in the gallery for the first live beading performance of many, on Wednesday, October 9, 2 – 5 PM. Visit with the artist as she beads, to learn about her practice, share space, and experience firsthand the time and effort her beading work requires.

Moriah Crocker’s research explores Indigenous beadwork and beadwork processes, labour, and negotiating alternative economic relationships embedded in Indigenous (Métis/nehiyaw) relationality. Her work is grounded in her personal beadworking practice, and in documenting the labour involved in beading through photography. Through durational beadwork performances, her work asks people to engage with the work of beading. Considering the historical importance of trade in creating miyo-wîcihitowin, she posits the labour of the artist and the time of visitor as a trading, reciprocal relationship.

This performance will continue throughout the exhibition:

Thursday, October 10, 12 – 5pm

Saturday, October 12, 12 – 5pm

Saturday, October 26, 12 – 5pm
