About
Chinatown Stories Map is a visual map project created by local artist Emily Chu. It includes three tours curated by storytellers: Lan Chan-Marples & Tanika Burlie, Linda Hoang, and Emily Chu. It is created to be an accessible and visual tool to explore Chinatown, and archive stories of culture, food, and art. This map is free to the public, and available in print and online.
All tours are now full! If you wish to be placed on the waitlist for a specific tour, please call EAC Shop & Services at 780−420−1757
Chinatown Stories Map invites you to get curious: to seek history of the land before Chinatown, hear diverse community histories that helped shape Chinatown, and continue this dialogue to build towards an inclusive, safe, and vibrant Chinatown for everyone!
Join us for the official project launch at 11:00AM on Saturday June 22, at EAC Shop & Services (9930 102 Avenue NW). The event begins with tea and an introduction. There will then be three tour groups to explore Chinatown, ending the event with a group dimsum! The event is FREE, but registration is required as space is limited:
Tour Options:
Lan’s Historical Tour of South Chinatown: Then and Now + Tanika’s Black History Tour — THIS TOUR IS SOLD OUT
Linda’s Food Gems Tour — THIS TOUR IS SOLD OUT
Emily’s Community Art Tour — THIS TOUR IS SOLD OUT
PLEASE NOTE: It is not possible to take multiple tours at this event. The Chinatown Stories Map, however, was created for self-guided tours you may do in the future.
Please wear appropriate clothing for weather, comfortable shoes for walking, and your curiosity to learn and share about Chinatown! All ages are welcome. Children do not need to register but must be accompanied by an adult.
No food will be provided until the ending point at dimsum. Tea will be available at EAC Shop & Services before the tours begin.
If you have any allergies, please let your tour guide know at dimsum (they will do their best to accommodate everyone).
No physical or electronic tickets will be provided. Your name will be on a guest list at tour check-in.
Paid parking available at Stanley A. Milner Library or Canada Place. Churchill Station (LRT) is adjacent to the Shop, and most major ETS routes are within a 10-minute walk.
You may also register over the phone at 780−420−1757 or in-person at EAC Shop & Services, 9930 102 Avenue NW
Please check your spam/junk folder should you not see your order confirmation.
