Join the University of Alberta Student Design Association for the opening night of Built on Tuesday, December 10 at CO*LAB Community Arts Laboratory, 9641 102A Ave NW
Built is an annual pop-up shop organized and managed by the Student Design Association and numerous student volunteers. This temporary store offers a platform for up-and-coming designers to showcase and sell their creations in a commercial environment. It also serves as an excellent opportunity for Edmonton residents to buy locally-made products while supporting emerging talent. The selection of items available at Built are curated by a jury of design professionals and are held to professional standards. Students are encouraged to collaborate with local businesses in the production of their products.
Entry Times:
6pm — 7:30pm & 7:30pm — 9pm
Tickets: Free!
No physical or electronic tickets will be provided. You will need to have your order confirmation ready to show at the door.
This year is Built’s 10th year anniversary, the first pop-up store debuted in 2014 at Enterprise Square. In this first iteration, 70 design students brought 87 unique products to downtown Edmonton, amounting to $22,670 in purchases. We are excited to partner with CO*LAB this year. This is our first time partnering with them and building on the successes of previous years, we are eager to create an even greater impact this December.
What is the SDA?
The Student Design Association (SDA) is a dynamic, student-led group at the University of Alberta that represents both current design students and alumni who have taken design courses during their academic journey. Our goal is to connect students with Edmonton’s thriving design community by encouraging collaboration, building partnerships with local organizations, and organizing a variety of events that engage students and faculty alike.
Our mission is to empower design students by providing them with resources and opportunities that lay the groundwork for long-term success. Throughout the year, we facilitate numerous events, with our standout highlights being Built and our annual Grad Show — two signature occasions that celebrate the remarkable talent and creativity emerging from our design students.
The funds we raise through sponsorships and grants are reinvested into creating valuable networking and professional development opportunities for students, strengthening their connections with Edmonton’s design industry. By becoming a partner, you play a key role in supporting the next wave of designers and investing in the future of the local creative community.
