Happenings on the Square

The Edmonton Arts Council, in partnership with the City of Edmonton, programs activity and event happenings in Sir Winston Churchill Square for casual and day-to-day public use between major festivals and civic events. Since August 2011, EAC Churchill Square Happenings programmer, Bob Rasko, has produced a diverse schedule of offerings open to the public.

Live at Lunch - 11:30am - 1:30pm

Enjoy live music over lunch to brighten your workday. 

September 8: Bullies of Basin St.
September 10: Funkasaurus Friday

Zumba - Mondays and Wednesdays from 12:10 - 1:00pm

Starting September 15, get your body movin' and work up a sweat with some lunch hour Zumba.  

Salsa in the Square - Tuesdays from 7:00- 9:00pm

From August 24 - September 28 learn some steps with free salsa lessons led by E-Town Salsa from 7:00 to  7:45 pm, then show off your new moves with rumba caliente featuring a live band from 8:00 to 9:00 pm! 

Cypher Wild - Thursdays from 6:00 - 9:00pm

Check out live street art, breakdancing and MC battles for all ages.

Games on the Square - Daily from 12:00 - 5:00pm

Play giant chess, checkers or snakes and ladders, or challenge your friend or co-worker to a ping-pong battle.

Festival in a Box - West Meadowlark

Join the Edmonton Arts Council for a parade in West Meadowlark! The parade runs from 1:00-3:00pm. You are invited to be a part of the parade! Wear a wacky costume or decorate your bike!

Please follow AHS guidelines at this event by maintaining a 2-metre distance from those outside of your household, washing or sanitizing your hands, and opting to wear a mask if you would like.

This event may be postponed or canceled in case of weather conditions or changes to public health orders.

Summer City Comeback Concert Series

Summer City Comeback Serie

The EAC is excited to present the Summer City Comeback outdoor concert series, bringing free live music to parks across Edmonton's downtown and select business improvement areas, in partnership with the City of Edmonton. Please note that these events may be cancelled in case of weather conditions or changes to public health orders.

  • September 15: Cam Neufeld Trio at Helen Nolan Park (12327 108 Ave) from 7:00-9:00 PM
  • September 17: Billie Zizi at Michael Phair Park (10124 104 St) from 4:00-6:00 PM
  • September 18: Saint and the Full 100 Band at 110B 300 West Block (in front of Square 1 Coffee) as part of SPR Emerge, from 2:00-4:00 PM
  • September 19: Felt Hat Trio at Giovanni Caboto Park (9425 109a Ave) from 2:00-4:00 PM
  • September 25: Troy Turner's Blues Band at 110B 300 West Block (in front of Square 1 Coffee) as part of SPR Emerge, from 2:00-4:00 PM
  • September 26: Andrea House, Chris Andrew, and Rubim De Toledo at Helen Nolan Park (12327 108 Ave) from 2:00-4:00 PM
Downtown Edmonton continues to transform, building a better and more family-friendly gathering place for citizens and visitors. Sir Winston Churchill Square and the Civic Precinct will be impacted by Valley Line LRT construction. Access to businesses on the Square will be maintained during construction. For your safety, please obey posted signs.
