Meet five new artists at EAC Shop & Services

November 1, 2024

With incredible new artists being welcomed year-round at the Edmonton Arts Council Shop & Services, there are always new and exciting local artists to discover when you visit. Next time you’re in Churchill Square, stop by and keep your eyes peeled for these five latest additions to the Shop!

Meet the artists

Blue Pine Press (Visual art)

Blue Pine Press is a one-person print-making operation working with photographic and alternative photographic processes. Based in Edmonton/Amiskwaciwâskahikan on Treaty 6 territory, they print using techniques like cyanotype, van dyke brown, and silver gelatin/darkroom printing. Every printed item is done by hand using these processes, making each piece unique. The work explores themes of nature, memory, and place, occasionally experimenting with recycled or alternative materials.

Jie (Jan) Xu (Visual art)

Jie Xu draws creative inspiration from daily life — the fleeting moments, mundane objects seen too often, and the whimsical imaginations of children. Additionally, her works often reflect influences from both Eastern and Western cultural backgrounds, as well as reverence for great artists and nature. Currently, Jie Xu’s works are all hand-painted in watercolour.

Ritual Ceramics (Pottery)

Ritual Ceramics is a line of wheel-thrown stoneware for everyday use by interdisciplinary artist Krystal Selbee. She draws inspiration from the vibrant chaos in early modernist abstract and impressionist painting. Her pots are minimalist in form and expressive in surface. She’s drawn to objects that tell a story — about how they came to be in her home or how they enhance her domestic scene with colour, texture, weight, line and form.
