What's coming up in public art in 2025

2025 is going to be a big year for public art! Over the course of the year, we’re excited to welcome several new public artworks to Edmonton’s public art collection. Edmonton will soon be home to new works by some exceptional local and national artists, including Emily Chu, Alma-Louise Visscher, Heraa Khan, AJA Louden, Coda Girvan, and Marigold Santos.

Experience sound art on your commute through Mill Woods

Taking the Valley Line South East to Mill Woods? As you step off the platform and travel along the 100-meter walkway that connects the train station to the transit station, listen carefully and you may hear something that piques your interest. Composed by local artist Dr. Nicolás Arnáez, a sound art piece will be audible for the next two to four months, “encouraging audiences to become mesmerized by the uniqueness of crafted sonic movements.”

Celebrating Black History Month 2025

Each Black History Month, we recognize the legacy and impact of African, Caribbean and Black Canadians and their communities. This year’s national theme for Black History Month is “Black Legacy and Leadership: Celebrating Canadian History and Uplifting Future Generations.” And a localized theme for Edmonton has been developed by Africa Centre for 2025, which is “Acknowledging the Past and Advocating for Change.”

Stream 1: Exploration & Experimentation of the Individuals & Collectives program supports an individual artist to work on creation, experimentation, or research activities.
